Low-Income Californians More Likely to Have Asthma

Californians living in poverty are more likely to be diagnosed with asthma than more affluent people, according to a new report from the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research.  From the Center: Low-income Californians with asthma experience more frequent symptoms, end up in the emergency room or hospital more often, and miss more days of work and school, researchers found. Of the more than 600,000 Californians who experience frequent symptoms that can signal uncontrolled asthma, a significant proportion (39.1 percent) earn less than 200 percent of the federal government’s poverty standard (FPL).
