HHS announces $500 million more for patient safety efforts

The Obama administration on Wednesday made available $500 million in healthcare reform funds for hospitals, insurers and employers to work together to reduce medical errors and hospital readmissions.

The money is the second part of a $1 billion investment announced in April. The Health and Human Service Department’s “Partnership for Patients” effort seeks to create public-private partnerships that HHS says could save 60,000 lives and $35 billion over three years by reducing medical errors by 40 percent.
