Asian Pacific Islander Data Disaggregation Bill (AB 1088) Unanimously Passes First Committee

In a 5-0 vote, AB 1088 (Eng), which would require state agencies to disaggregate demographics data for Asian and Pacific Islander ethnicities, passed the Assembly Business & Professions Committee last Tuesday.

We are one step closer in our efforts to ensure that our communities get counted by the State of California!

Many thanks to all of you who submitted letters of support.  Also, thanks to the over twenty organizations and individuals who came to the hearing in Sacramento and expressed support for the bill.  The strong showing of ethnic and geographic diversity was so overwhelming that we were able to get a “Yes” vote from an assemblymember on the Business & Professions Committee who had initially expressed concerns about the bill.

NEXT STEPS

The bill will be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee in the next couple of weeks, so please stay tuned.  We will keep you updated and may call upon you for additional support.
