The Urban & Environmental Policy Institute at Occidental College is hosting a series of 6 nutrition workshops for parents of young children (preschool and elementary) with the broader goal of mobilizing them to be new and future advocates to improve school food offered by LAUSD (getting healthier but still needs a lot of work). There have been a series of food improvement motions that have been passed by LAUSD, which like Title VI for language access, sounds good but is not monitored and poorly enforced.
So we’re out to inform and recruit parent advocates by informing them of these policies and what they can do, through hands on and exciting nutrition workshops co-hosted with promotores from Esperanza Community Housing Corporation. Our primary target are parents/caregivers who live in Central & South LA, Echo Park, Koreatown, Pico Union but we won’t turn away any parents if there is room.
