Jerry Brown Still Pushing for Special Election

A little more than a week after he ended negotiations with Republicans at the Capitol, Gov. Jerry Brown told hospital and law enforcement officials that persuading members of the GOP to allow a vote on taxes is still his goal. Brown even implored those officials, who gathered Wednesday in Sacramento and later met with lawmakers, to “hug a Republican” if they happened to see one. The governor also said if the budget is balanced with only spending cuts, tuition to the University of California could more than double to $25,000 a year.
