What is going on with the California State Budget? How will the budget plan put forward by Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg and Speaker John A. Perez affect you? Do you have questions for members of the Legislature? Then please join California Legislative Democrats from around the state for a series of live internet town hall meetings during the week of August 23rd. On Thursday, August 26th, at 6:30pm, you can Join Senator Mark Leno for a Live Internet Town Hall to discuss California’s State Budget.
The proposed budget provides a credible path to closing the budget gap facing California. It makes significant expenditure reductions and proposes a tax reform plan that provides Californians tax relief. It also stabilizes state revenue by reducing the amount of California tax dollars lost to the federal government.
Here are a few of the important priorities in the budget proposal released last week:
- Rejects the Governor’s $4 billion cut to K-12 education
- Rejects the Governor’s proposal to eliminate CalWORKS
- Rejects the Governor’s proposal to eliminate child care services
- Cuts the state sales tax nearly in half by 2012
