Project RENEW LA County is ready to launch! (At least after the May 18th Collaborative meeting!)
On March 18, 2010, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health received 16 million dollars through Communities Putting Prevention to Work, stimulus funding from the CDC, to improve nutrition, increase physical activity, and reduce the obesity epidemic by way of policy, systems, and environmental change interventions. This award represents an unprecedented level of funding to reduce the toll of obesity-related diseases in our communities. For more information about Communities Putting Prevention to Work and Project RENEW LA County, please review the attached fact sheets.
Come join us for our first Project RENEW LA County Community Coalition Meeting:
Tuesday, May 18, 2010 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Children’s Bureau – Magnolia Place Family Center
1910 Magnolia Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90007
Meet local experts on policy and systems change for nutrition, physical activity and the built environment. These experts will be sharing ideas on how we can work together to improve the Los Angeles landscape. We will discuss ways in which we can collectively leverage our abilities to make lasting change in Los Angeles County and share updates on project implementation. Network with other agencies interested in doing this important work. You will leave with a RENEW-ed passion (pun intended) to change our little corner of the world.
RSVP by May 14th to Rebecca McKenzie at email@example.com
We want to thank all of you for your valued assistance and contributions to the application last fall. We would not have been successful without your support. We are looking forward to working with you over the next two years to achieve our collective goals of reducing chronic disease and improving health in Los Angeles County. Now the hard work begins!
More details about the meeting logistics will be sent before May 18th.
